With the long Labor Day weekend coming up.....there has to be some things for me to do. UGH! Well you would think so anyway. So I came up with the Top 5 avenues to get rid of some of that hockey withdrawal.

#5: Go to Best Buy, Amazon or anywhere you can buy DVD's and purchase something from your favorite team. At the very least this will make you feel good that either something hockey is coming or something you can play right away is in your hands.

#4: If money is tight....did into your vault so to speak. VCR tapes, DVD's....even CD's....something has to be in there that reminds you of hockey. Dig deep....dig REAL deep! You may just find something in there that you haven't seen in a really really long time. Hell if you have a good hockey book, now may be the time to curl up with it every so often of course.

#3: Explore Online! You can go to Hulu or Youtube. Just search hockey or the NHL and have fun at it. Now of course you can explore options like nhl.com and tsn.ca of course. Those are kind of the old standbys for me. Read some hockey blogs even....just for kicks!

#2: If an arena is somewhat close....go visit it! Hell I would kill for this option as there is nothing but desert out here. Take some pictures, down a few pints...soak it in! Thankfully in just a little over a month, the regular season will be here and there will be much rejoicing. Any hockey arena will do even the minor leagues as sometimes those are the best.

Finally #1.....

#1: Plan a hockey trip sometime during the season. Nothing feels quite as good as seeing the game live and getting something together so you can do that is an awesome feeling beyond compare. Maybe even do a mini road trip just to see your team play. Get on Expedia or hotels.com and see what you can find. These are where the best memories are.

So yes it really is the dog days of summer but Labor Day means football is getting close and if football is getting close, then hockey is getting even closer. Take heart and be resolute hockey fans, your panicea is coming (maybe not soon enough but it is coming) and probably before you even know it.
