The beat goes on! In what is increasingly feeling like the day that will never end, Monday has been a slow day so far hockey wise. The picture above is from one of my final exams in my chef suit nonetheless. I look more like a ref dressed in complete black probably.
Some news this morning...Vitaly Vishnevski indeed did clear waivers and was promptly loaned to Russia. That basically means the Devils will not see him again...and that isn't a bad thing. Lamoriello frees up the whole 1.8 million because it was a "loan" and not a buyout or assignment or anything like that. Expect Matt Corrente or one of the other kids to crack the lineup this year because the Devils need to get faster and younger. At the very least, there won't be as many worries about a guy being 50 feet out of the play because he missed a check. That is for certain!
Hey even Tyson Nash is getting a tryout with the Phoenix Coyotes again. Sure he hasn't played in the NHL since 2005-06 and his skills have probably eroded some more but it is nice to see Phoenix giving him a shot much like the NY Rangers giving Petr Nedved a shot. Nash is a little sparkplug and a ball of energy or at least he was. If he can provide that with Phoenix....it may just make a difference.
Andrej Meszaros is still no closer to a contract but Russia or offer sheets apparently need not apply here. It is my belief now that indeed he will stay with Ottawa. They just have to come up with a money amount that agrees with both sides. So expect that just before or right as training camp starts. That will keep the Ottawa faithful less antsy as the season gets closer.
Lastly, I wanted to thank everyone again for a great podcast. Sadly, Darryl Dobbs won't be able to make it on next Sunday but we will have a guest I am sure. Down the road, some of the folks from the podcast will have a bit of a fantasy league draft. When it does come, what how we draft and of course take your comments and err...shots as well! This will be quite the interesting experience. Just something different for our listeners and a little insight as well into how these things work.
Simply now that the Olympics are over...hockey is that much closer. Soon enough we will be talking about actual games and won't that be nice? It sure will!
