The turkeys may still yet get a reprieve this week...but stay tuned on that. Quickly, I wanted to dive into this week's poll question, "Who Is The First Half Mvp'? The voters had a choice of five candidates...some were pretty good I hear. In the end, Martin Brodeur got the most votes. And now the many many questions that will be asked from all of this.
Why Martin Brodeur? Well I am guessing a lot of Devil fans or tri-state area fans read the blog. His stats are pretty darn good...he does have 24 wins....a 2.10 GAA and a .920 save percentage are MVP worthy. Luongo's numbers are a hair better and I think honestly Luongo had a better first half than Brodeur which is why my wife and I voted for Luongo honestly. Stunning I know but true.
As I mentioned before Luongo got some good votes, but I am surprised that Sidney Crosby didn't get more. Didn't he win this or something last year? I thought he would have gotten more respect but he didn't. The numbers are there....the team has surged to a first place tie with New Jersey. Maybe I should have put Ty Conklin on this list?? I don't really know what else I could have done there.
One name I guess I could have put was Dany Heatley instead of Jason Spezza. I really thought Spezza is what makes this team go but the first couple games that Heatley has missed due to his shoulder injury has made it obvious I made a wrong choice here. Without Heatley, the goalie problems in Ottawa are magnified to a power that can't get much higher or hotter. So I guess maybe that explains some of the votes for other and perhaps why Spezza didn't get much love at all.
My question to the readers that voted other is...simply....who was your other? I am more curious to see where I went wrong on this and maybe you, the reader, can come up with a top 5 of your own with a winner. Good luck everyone and thank you. Maybe just maybe the turkeys will get let off the hook after this one.
