It appears that Ottawa has officially forgotten how to play the team game, and their goaltenders have completely forgotten that the puck is best kept out of the net. If that isn’t bad enough, we have a GM who is shooting blanks, and a coach who has taken an elite team and made them a confused, useless pile of mush, and probably smelly yogurt.

So it has come down to me having to compile a list. This might have to become a common thing, at least until they all start playing as a team again. Either way, I think it is time to break down exactly who is pulling their weight, and who is not, and unfortunately, this week will find the not so good list unreasonably smaller than the bad list. So let’s get started with the upside…

THE GOOD:
- Atop this list is Mike Fisher, who has come alive in the last couple weeks, doing as much as humanly possible to provide the team with the secondary scoring necessary with Heatley injured. Whether it is the linemates in Neil and McAmmond, or the sheer desire to get some W’s, Fisher has shown a dedication to his play that made him worth the raise he received earlier in the year.

- Daniel Alfredsson belongs on this list, regardless of his hip flexor or his pointless night against the Panthers. He has been a force for the Senators this year, and will likely finish the year above the 100 point mark once again.

- Joe Corvo spent the first forty-ish games kicking some MAJOR defensive butt. His efforts were evident by his fantastic +/-, and his puck handling skills have been better than even last year during the playoffs. What Corvo will need to work on, however, is avoiding making mistakes that lead to costly turnovers. He has the capacity to be a top four defender, and I fully expect him to be one in the coming years.

- Antoine Vermette. Broke out of a scoring slump the other night, and continues to be a massive help on the PK. I like what I am seeing from him, although I think he has room to elevate his game a bit more after the all-star break. If he could do one thing better, it would be skating through players instead of trying to go around them. He definitely has the talent to do so.

THE BAD:
- Wade Redden…. Mr. Underachiever himself stands on top of this list, and frankly, I think he knows how bad he is playing. Committing to the wall in the offensive zone is fine if you are going to stop the puck eighty percent of the time, but when it is maybe one out of every five, you had better reconsider your basic fundamentals. Too many awful pinches which result in goals, and too many poor decisions in his own zone which lead to goals. Redden needs to go.

- The rest of the defense. While Corvo obviously doesn’t belong in this, neither does Redden. These guys are playing weak defense, but certainly not as weak as number six. They need to be a pillar of strength on the offensive blueline, and a shutdown special in their own zone. Smarten up, and straighten out.

- Donovan, Robataille, Spezza, Kelly. All guys who were brought on to the team to make a difference. All of whom should be dominating their respective positions. All of whom don’t seem to have any interest in playing a full game. Kelly could be extremely impressive playing against other teams third lines. Spezza could be phenomenal if he used his brain, and/or switched to a composite, and Donovan just bores me when he is on the ice. Bottom line, these guys are all firing at maybe 75%.

- The goalies. I can't even describe how annoyed I am with gerbage and emery. They don't give their team a chance ever to win a low scoring game. Honestly, allowing 14 goals against Washington in two games?! Six goals against Philly, even though they outshot them!? Looks like Murray should stop striking out with forwards and start striking out with goaltending trades.

- John Paddock. Get your team in line. I am so frustrated with this guy, I might need a new blog to sum it all up. Stay tuned.
