One of the worst kept secrets in hockey (oh wait that was 6 weeks ago)...nevermind! At any rate, Steven Stamkos signed a three year entry level contract at a press conference in the Bear Mountain Resort located in Victoria, British Columbia. He received the max for sure as far as initial salary at 875 K per year and more than likely Stamkos received the max bonus of 2 million per season.
Stamkos scored 58 goals in 61 games last year with the Sarnia Sting of the OHL. There is no question he is a hell of a talent. Now how will he mesh with fellow #1 draft pick (class of 98) is the big question? Something tells me he will not do too shabby at all. Good luck Steven. Tampa is short on defense but he will find plenty of offensive opportunities. It will not be dull in Tampa Bay this season.
