Holy shit! It's cold in here! If I didn't know better someone has the thermostat set to subarctic. That can only mean one thing.....it is time for The Cold War. Rick has the week off. Do not worry, he will be back next week.
With the slow week...you know what really ticks me off....is when assignments are promised to be delivered and they aren't. It is similar to waiting in the mail for an important package to arrive and the wonderful folks at UPS can't figure out where your bloody address is. The most hilarious thing is we have a beautiful mailbox setup where the address is clearly shown. It is so clear, even a 5 year old could see it! Yet....many times I have waited an extra week or more for something or had to pick an item up in town because their driver can't find an address that is so close to their face, it would smack their face around 360 degrees.
That being said, it gets pretty cold in the household when things are not done as asked. I admit it, I do not ask for much when surfing the net. But if you have something up on your site and you can't make that commitment...offer an apology...something...anything! The best thing I learned is t0 just man up if you can't deliver on an item.
This goes for hockey news even this time of year. If you have breaking news.....by all means report it! At the same time do your homework. It is like then European websites that report these hockey stories only to realize (via translation) that they are completely bogus. Look at the story of Mats Sundin signing with Vancouver (an article from Sweden) that was quickly denied by Sundin, his agent, and seemingly every know hockey fan in both hemispheres.
Realistically, no one is going to get this right all the time. No one is perfect...let's make that abundantly clear! However, if something is easily doable and it is not done....that blogger or journalist or podcaster is doing a disservice to his readers and listeners respectively. We as a medium owe it to them first to get it right the first time....do it right...and use common courtesy always.
So even in the hockey world, that obligation is clear. Let's make sure that we help our fellow media folks where they fall short or when they need a hand. I will be the first to admit...I have been saved a few times by my fellow bloggers when I couldn't get to something. The key is to have the guts to ask for help...and to not just leave things hanging. Always remember that.
Tomorrow...we will have a Battle Of The Blogosphere Update...till then....have a good night!
