So apparently Martin Straka has pulled a not so fast or at least his agent has on his behalf. All signs pointed to him heading to the Czech Republic to play his last days out. Well maybe not yet. Several sources as well as agent, Ritch Winter, have said that Straka still weighing out his options. For all anyone knows...Straka could still be a Ranger next season...no one really has a true answer on this.

Now what is going to happen? One thing is certain...Straka is waiting until at least July 1st to make a decision. Apparently, Straka has several European offers and several NHL offers that could be on the table by then.

Here is the TSN article......

Ultimately I do think Straka will end up in Europe somewhere with an out clause that for the right price an NHL team can have him. That is just my take on it.

Now could this happen in the NHL?

Brian Runge was suspended one game for bumping Mets Manager Jerry Manuel Tuesday night. Here are some more details. I watched most of the debacle of the game and truly was amazed Runge wasn't suspended longer. The minute a player bumps an ump he gets 20 or 30 games. But 1 game??? I mean come on! This is something the NHL would do to its refs. No we won't go too hard on them...we'll just slap them on the wrist a little.

Gary Bettman better take a look at this quick...or that discipline czar (Colin Campbell) because with the degradation of quality in refereeing...an event like this is going to happen in hockey eventually. Hockey refs bait players and coaches to a lesser extent than other sports but I have seen it done. Koharski and Fraser in the 97 playoffs against the Devils sticks out and the 2001 playoffs as well. The Tampa Bay-Calgary 2004 Final when literally the refs were out to get Iginla every chance they could call something marginal. Heads up NHL powers that be...this one is on the horizon...like it or not.

On to another would you see this in the NHL?

The Houston Astros released Shawn Chacon a day after him and GM Ed Wade got into an altercation on Wednesday. Chacon threw Wade to the ground and needed to be restrained by several Astros officials. With him being waved, he will essentially not be paid if another team does not claim him by Monday. Why mess around with suspensions? Just CUT him...I like that! He was already being called to the manager's office anyway...his time had to be nearly up...this just sealed it.

So could it really happen in the NHL? Well Theo Fleury comes to mind as a player so tormented that eventually he was essentially black-listed from the NHL. I do think it could easily happen again. Anyone wonder why Chris Simon is in Europe? I certainly don't! Who was going to take a chance on him potentially harming someone for life this time? No NHL GM would and hence he will probably play out the rest of his career in foreign lands or semi-pro leagues...one or the other.

It just goes to show that you never quite know what is going to happen on just a day to day basis. They say these are the days of our lives...boy it is sure a soap opera sometimes that could just be done without. Play on boys!
