BallHype: hype it up!

With a scant three days till Free Agency begins...the Pens made a deal with Tampa. That deal gives Tampa the exclusive rights to negotiate with Gary Roberts and Ryan Malone until Tuesday (July 1st). This is all for a fourth round pick...unless Malone signs of course...then that pick becomes a third rounder in 2009. Nice!

Malone and Roberts clearly were not coming back. Shero had to get something for them...consider that mission accomplished. With Hossa not coming back and Orpik more than likely not coming back either...this does allow the GM some options for the Frenzy. After all, people will still want to play with guys like Crosby and Malkin...so no worries...at least not yet for Pittsburgh.

Now as for Jagr...no one knows...I think I have heard it all. From Russia to the Rangers...to several other NHL teams....even Pittsburgh. Today is more of the same honestly. I still think at the end of the day...the Rangers resign him but this is often where the strange and bizarre happens.

Sundin and Montreal are still talking but nothing is still happening. Sundin to Sweden still remains an outside possibility....as he is still going back and forth with offers from Montreal, New York, and Toronto. Detroit is a darkhorse but increasingly they seem to be fading from the picture here. Sundin deserves to make his decision at his own pace....I think he has earned it honestly...don't you?

Lastly, I expect one or two more teams to go the trade the rights route.....Orpik may be the next to get such treatment. But Shero will have to act quick...the window is closing quick...and so is any impending deal to get something before it becomes nothing. So just strap on in and buckle up....the Frenzy draws ever closer!
