Hello everyone and of course Mrs. Wassel! More on her later.....heh! As the sunshine warms up the cold morning out here.....I can think of more than a few things at once. But I would not be a fool to touch on baseball a bit. It is Opening Day where everyone has hope unless you are the Florida Marlins. To the Marlins...have a Happy Santana Day! The games start in about an hour...enjoy it!

But hey we're here to talk hockey!! Hell, it is only one week till the most exciting 2 month war known to man....the Stanley Cup Playoffs. However I wanted to first congratulate Boston College, Michigan, Notre Dame and North Dakota for making it to the NCAA Frozen Four. The action starts April 10th and expect to be a hell of a Frozen Four. My pick is North Dakota just for the record.

Really really...onward to the NHL. There is just 7 hockey days left till the playoffs. It sure has been a long long season and though we at The Program won't start dishing out awards just yet....we will get around to it...honest. Right now it is all about the action. I wanted to thank the fine folks around the hockey blogosphere for all their contributions. The hockey blogging community is truly a unique atmosphere. Of course I have to praise the podcast guys and gals out there...for they also keep us inspired to do our best and keep everyone informed.

There are just two games tonight and one (Thrashers-Lightning) that I have to mention. But the big one is the back to back at MSG between the Rangers and Penguins. The Rangers are looking up and down at the same time...they could finish in 4th and they could also finish in 9th. The Penguins right now are in a two horse race for the conference #1 seed with Montreal. They are 1 point up right now with 3 games to go. The Rangers are looking for revenge tonight not only on the Pens but on Sidney Crosby, who was the center of a bit of controversy after a high stick that some Rangers claim really wasn't much of one if at all. I remember Sean Avery calling out for an Oscar to Crosby being said after the game...man if that isn't the pot calling the kettle black. Check out The Faceoff Factor, The Battle of New York, and of course The NHL Arena for all the good stuff on tonight's big one.

Now back to that picture in the beginning....I will make my small concession speech to my wife and her Ducks for winning the Wassel Cup. Yes I know the Devils are not mathematically eliminated yet but I am a bit of a realist here and I just know better. Yes I do not like couch detail for those wondering....only on nights where the cider is plenty. But with a 5 point lead and only a week to go...it appears the Ducks will hold off the Devils after it looked like the Devils were going to take this. Am I mad? Yes who wouldn't be....but what can you do. So Mrs. Wassel your dinner will come soon enough probably after the regular season ends. Sadly, I will have to wear that Ducks shirt and hat as promised too.

My wife will also be doing a guest blog sometime in April....after all she is the one that helps me come up with a good portion of my questions for Hockey Around The Horn. She is not only one of the best hockey fans I can talk to....she is also a pretty cool woman.

Tonight is a bit of a breather but with big matchups abound this week coming in such rapid fire succession...this is one hell of a way to end the hockey season. Just to think...the best is yet to come!!
