Time to break out the cider this week....for the four best from yesterday's NHL Arena Game Of The Week between Washington and Florida. Washington defeated Florida 3-0 so I have alot of feeling that there will be some cider for the boys on the beltway.
4th cider -- Mike Green (Washington Capitals)
Yep...Washington theme here....as you can see. He had a nice active game with a goal and 5 shots. More importantly his goal really was the backbreaker for Florida as that 2-0 lead after 2 felt more like 5-0. Green was solid in his own end like always and really has been an asset and will be formidable come playoff time.
3rd cider -- Alexander Ovechkin (Washington Caps)
Just a normal day at the office..62nd goal of the season and an assist with 4 shots and a +2. I hear he is really good or something. I do think sometime down the road he will tally 70 in a season. Ovechkin's physical play was noticeable again yesterday as he was credited with 4 hits...and played some solid D..not many know that about him but you can see it.
2nd cider -- Cristobal Huet (Washington Caps)
No respect from Florida I tell ya....heh. He only made 32 saves some of the spectacular variety and now has Washington within 2 points of 1st in the Southeast. Yet no love from the 3 stars...well here's a big cider to you Cristobal! That was a clutch performance yesterday especially when Florida got 26 of its 32 shots in the final 2 periods and Huet was up to the challenge. He is one of the reasons why I would be scared out of my pants if my team had to face them in the playoffs.
1st cider -- Viktor Kozlov (Washington Caps)
You know...sometimes playing with Russians is best for people. Kozlov is quietly having a decent season but yesterday he turned his game up a notch. His goal and 2 assists led the Caps to the win. His goal was the game winner and it was an awfully sweet one. Then he set up Ovechkin for the final goal of the evening...it was textbook Russian to Russian chemistry. Kozlov and his size could be very useful come the postseason. Now can Washington squeeze their way in?
There is only ONE WEEK to go in the regular season and oh boy is it going to be filled with jam packed action. The Penguins have taken the top spot in the East with a 3-1 win over the Rangers. We will talk more about those things and more on the Monday Ice Water Cooler tomorrow and don't forget the Fantasy Hockey 101 with more LSHL and Stevens Leagues updates. Till then, catch you on the ice!!
