I fear that my beloved Predators are not going to make the playoffs this year. Something Trotz has said in an interview and keeping in line with my previous posts is that 94 points will be needed to make the 8th seed in the West. This means us winning out our last 7 games. Is it possible? Yes. Do I think they’ll do it? Unfortunately, No. I cannot comment extensively on last nights game as my Alma Matter Belmont University was playing Duke in the first round of the NCAA tournament. I was out at the sports bar here in Nashville and if you know anything about sports and watch ESPN you know that my tiny school had the lead with 2 minutes left and ended up losing by 1 to storied Duke. We had the game in our hand and threw away an inbounds pass which would have sealed it up (or at least made it a 3 point game with about 15 seconds left). It was INSANE at the bar nonetheless. Cheers of “Let’s Go Belmont!” echoed as about 20 of us came to cheer on Belmont but by the end the entire bar was standing and screaming for the hometown team to pull off the upset. Needless to say I missed watching the Predators because of that game.

From what I’ve read around the web we lost due to our inconsistency again. After letting in 2 goals Trotz pulled Ellis when he shouldn’t have (can we please stick with 1 goaltender?), considering it was only 2 goals. I mean really. Who pulls a goalie after a second goal is scored on them and the score is 2-1? Mason didn’t do any better letting in soft goals. It didn’t help that the D fell asleep a few times while he was between the pipes. No matter what, my hat is off to the new ownership group. They pushed this team to the brink of the playoffs (I hope they’ll prove me wrong and make the playoffs) without having a true high dollar superstar on the team. I’m excited to see how the off season goes and what players are brought in off the free agent market.
