Andrei Markov finally scored a goal tonight (on the Power Play) after having 10 assists in his first eight games. I think of a guy like Teppo Numminen who had 2 goals and over 20 assists three times in his career. He had talent to score but for whatever reason could not.

Stranger numbers have been thrown up there folks but still 10 assists before Markov got a goal tonight just seems insane for a player with a laser shot. Andrei can fire it hard and gets a ton of shots on net but it just seemed this year...shots that were normally goals wound up becoming rebounds for other players to hammer home. Teppo Numminen, I belive had 24 assists once before getting a goal but don't quote me on that either. The thing is he had 24 shots on goal before tonight (that is 3 a game)....impressive stuff!
So with the power play tally finally out of the way....will Markov score 6 or 16 this year? My guess is somewhere in the middle with a boatload of assists to boot. He just has that talent to hit the net or help his teammates get easy tap-ins. That is a nice attribute to have in today's NHL for a defenseman and his "D" is getting better too. Just a strange stat on a wacky Thursday night to digest.
