Can you imagine a Stanley Cup Finals game cancelled in the modern era? The last time it even happened was the influenza outbreak nearly 90 years ago. Well the unthinkable has happened. Not only was a World Series game suspended (after 5 1/2 innings) last night but the suspended game was canceled tonight as well.

To see a sport have a game suspended under curious circumstances....is insane. It seems Major League Baseball dropped the ball here somewhere...not following its rule book to suit its needs. Bottom line is the game conditions were getting bad enough to postpone or suspend the game...I don't dispute that as much as the cancellation tonight. That is crap....radar showed some drizzle and cold temps...maybe a light shower but nothing dramatic. Sorry MLB your excuse does not cut it!
The bottom line is not even Gary Bettman would do something like this. It makes me thankful that I am a more diehard hockey fan than baseball fan or I might be more pissed off about this. I do hope the Phillies truly get the apology they deserve from MLB because well...the rulebook was screwed around with. Again, this would not happen for a hockey game. They would find a way to make it right.
One final question...why could the field not be dried at least to the point where the suspended game could take place? Even hockey has played with mushified ice and such...and dealt with blizzards, perfect storms, etc...and the show still has gone on. This is an opportunity for hockey tonight to show disgruntled baseball fans that we will play on when baseball will not. So far so good!!!
