Finally, we are to the last position. This week we spotlight the top 25 left wingers plus a few more that you may want to add to your team as the season goes on. The top 10 guys on our list have the standard numbers in parentheses as usual. The guts in the parentheses are goals, assists, +/-, shots on goal).

So let's get down to it before I start drinking more Strongbow again!

The Top 10 Left Wingers......

1. Alexander Ovechkin (65-47-28-446)

Ovechkin did just about everything last year. Last night we had a question on Hockey Around The Horn if he'd score more or less than 65 and I will weigh in now. I am going over folks. I will take the farm on this and say Ovechkin is the best player in fantasy hockey amongst forwards. He may almost get to 70 and will probably total 115-120 points or more this season. Add in the nice +/- and shots on goal and he is a guy too hard to pass up with the #1 pick even. Did I mention the 22 PPG? Yeah that led the league naturally. Take him now!

2. Ilya Kovalchuk (52-35-(-12)-283)

Kovalchuk had an "off" year...that sounds scary doesn't it? Well it should be! The bottom line is the +/- will likely not improve but every other category should and there is no reason why it won't. As far as Left Wingers go, there is a big drop off from 1 and 2 down to 3 here. So think wisely folks....there are not that many spectacular Left Wingers out there and with Jason Williams on his side for a full season...Kovalchuk should get around 95-100 points at least with Atlanta. He may even score 60 this year. A must pick if you can get him.

3. Dany Heatley (41-41-33-224)

Heatley will have a new linemate apparently as the big line in Ottawa has been broken up. Or at least that has what has been said. Maybe he gets a guy like Vermette who could complement him well. The bottom line is it will not be the same for Heatley this year. His points may tick up but only very slightly. I will not say colossal crapper here folks but if he gets more than 90 points, I will be very surprised. This could be a long year for Heatley at times.

4. Thomas Vanek (36-28-(-5)-240)

Buffalo is going to have a scoring renaissance this year and folks like Roy, Pominville, and Vanek are going to lead the way. When you get paid like one (7.143 mill per), you have to play like a top player. That is the bottom line here. This I think will be the year the assists come up with the goals. Can he be a 40-40 player? I do think it is possible. So 82-86 points is a reasonable projection for a player who clearly is now on the rise.

5. Alex Tanguay (18-40-11-121)

A big riser on my list and several others. Montreal has the potential to be the best offense in the NHL by far and away. Sure it could go up in smoke but that is not very likely. All the injuries seem to be happening now.....so no worries (10 in total). Tanguay is unshackled (away from Mike Keenan in Calgary) and that will result in a big jump in points alone. He won't have to play quite so much defense in Montreal because there are other players that can do that for him. A season of 80-85 points and a nice spike in Power Play Points and Goals will be a big help for fantasy owners.

6. Daniel Sedin (29-45-6-247)

Probably should have had 30 goals this year so expect it this season. The great thing for Sedin owners is this is a contract year but do not expect the huge jump that some others may get. Vancouver relies too much on the twins and other teams key on them every night which just adds to the pressure. He still is one of the best wingers out there and maybe on another team, one day, Sedin will do better. But right now about 80-85 points will do it on what will be a below average Vancouver Canucks squad.

7. Vaclav Prospal (33-38-0-215)

Being part of the MVP line means a great time for fantasy owners to get a player that will fall down the draft a bit. Left Wingers always do for some reason and then there is always a run on them when you least expect it. Prospal is too good not to get big points on the line but the problem will be the +/-. That is going to drag him down quite a bit. So though I am calling an 85-90 point season for Vinnie..he may also be a -30 or worse and that is going to hurt considerably in leagues that still count +/- heavy.

8. Patrik Elias (20-35-10-263)

He is just too good to be performing so poorly. His 55 point season last year would be been much worse if he didn't have 12 points in his last 10 games. Elias has to convert his chances. That 7.6% shooting percentage is way too low for a player his caliber. If the preseason, so far, is any indication, we may be seeing the beginning signs of a healthy Elias and that should scare the living daylights out of opposing teams. Elias is a 90-100 point producer on the Devils when at full strength. He may not get there this year but 80-85 points is probably more realistic IF he can stay healthy.

9. Rick Nash (38-31-2-329)

Nash should be higher on this list but he just doesn't quite have the supporting cast still. Sorry but Umberger and Huselius just aren't as good as guys like Hossa or Rolston....it is what it is. However, you will see a little bit of an improvement in his numbers. It is sad to see that much talent go to waste but at least Nash does play in a defensive system which does help his +/-. So you could do worse than him honestly. Maybe 75-80 points should do it but more than likely 70-75 because someone is bound to get injured on his side in Columbus.

10. Brenden Morrow (32-42-23-207)

Was last year a career year or just a sign of even better things to come? That is the question folks. No one really knows. Morrow does have some talented players around him (Richards, Modano, Ribeiro, and more). So he is going to score this year...I just keep thinking around the same marks as last year because the offense has to be spread all around somehow. So somewhere around 75 points and about the same stats on his vitals should do it. Still a pretty darn good season for the Dallas Left Winger.
