What a Manic Monday!! News often comes in bunches and today was no exception. So first off, let's list some of today's headlines!!

  • Sergei Gonchar out 4-6 months (shoulder surgery)
  • Nikolai Khabibulin put on waivers by CHI.
  • Nashville gets Nick Tarnasky from TB for conditional.
  • Yannick Weber happy to still be in Habs camp.
  • Isles claim Thomas Pock from Rangers.
  • Canes co-owner passes away.
It was just a very active day. Now of course Khabibulin took the lion's share of the headlines and rightfully so. Everyone wants to know where the Russian netminder is going to wind up. Rumors are swirling again big time. This could be much ado about nothing but a team may try to claim him off re-entry waivers. Or the Blackhawks may have to throw in a good prospect to sweeten the pot for maybe teams like LA, ATL, etc.

Michel Ouellet got placed on waivers today so that may just end Jussi Jokinen trade talk at least for a little while. Maybe Pittsburgh would try and claim Ouellet or another Eastern Conference team. Now Tampa is likely not done as Wednesday approaches so stayed tune...the saga that is the Lightning is certainly not at an end.

Sad news from Pittsburgh. Thanks to Tony Ferrante from MVN (Pittsburgh Pens). Sergei Gonchar will be out 4-6 months with shoulder surgery. Kris Letang as your #1 puck moving defenseman....that has to be a bit of a scary prospect for the Penguins. Ray Shero may be making calls as we speak right now...trying to get a defenseman and stat!

The nice one I saw today....Thomas Pock was claimed by the New York Islanders. Thanks to the Rangers Report for this gem. The Rangers never really liked Pock and this move does not shock me in the least. Expect the New York Islanders to find a home for him and much use of a player that can play if given a chance. It seems to me the Rangers are already searching for excuses and scapegoats. That sounds like a recipe from 1998-2005 where the Rangers failed to make the playoffs.

So the Cooler was a bit hot today....tomorrow may just sear off your eyebrows if you are not careful. Look out below!
