In case you haven't read it yet, Mathieu Schneider has been traded to Atlanta for Ken Klee, Brad Larsen, and a minor league prospect. This indeed now puts Anaheim just under the salary cap. I also wanted to thank Adam Brady for the heads up as well. When stories do break like this on a lazy Friday afternoon...you can really feel them coming from miles away...like 135 exactly...the distance from my house to Honda Center.
Now this does put the Ducks under the salary cap at long last. It was going to happen eventually folks...just Brian Burke had to take some salary to make it happen....about 1.81 million or so. Burke likely is not done but he has far more options than he did at the start of the business day this morning. The fact that he has easy to move parts now does not hurt either.
So Ducks fans say hello to Teemu Selanne....

Teemu Selanne more than likely will be signed by later this evening or sometime over the weekend with an announcement about early next week or so. Basically Schneider was expendable folks the minute Steve Montador was signed in Anaheim and probably before that even. So Team Teemu will be playing a full season for the Ducks...and possibly two. That has to settle the stomachs of Ducks fans everywhere.
It is why I said previously that the Ducks will be just fine. Just think it is still five days before October 1st...plenty of time to spare for Brian Burke you know. As for that other relatively old guy...don't believe the hype...he is not going to sign anywhere soon. But Schneider is out of Anaheim and Selanne will soon be in. All is well in Duck Land....for now.
