Erik Condra (Senior) by Matt Cashora (CSTV)

BallHype: hype it up!

On a night where hearts were heavy as news spread about Mike Lockert's passing Friday morning...the Irish still held Senior Night and put on an early 4 goal onslaught on Michigan State en route to a 5-0 win for Notre Dame at the soldout Joyce Center.

Mike Lockert died early Friday morning....he was the Notre Dame hockey play by play guy for seven years. He was only 43 years old. As the Irish were awarded the CCHA regular season trophy...I could not help to remember some of Lockert's more memorable calls on 99.9 CAT FM. He was indeed honored tonight and he will be sorely missed in the Notre Dame community.

The team honored his passing well....as Drew Palmisano was in net for the Spartans in place of Jeff Lerg who is playing this evening for Michigan State's Senior Night. The Irish jumped on him for 4 first period goals and 5 overall on 31 shots. Erik Condra scored twice and Jordan Pearce made 15 saves for his 10th career shootout and 54th career win for the Irish.

Notre Dame honored its 2009 Senior Class following the game. The group of senior manager Kyle Kron, defenseman Luke Lucyk, Justin White, Garrett Regan, Christian Hanson, Jordan Pearce and Erik Condra were honored after the game as they played in their final regular season game at Notre Dame. This group of players is the winningest class in the program's history with 98 wins to date in their four seasons.

The good thing about Saturday Evening is that though Michican State should be full of energy to honor the Seniors for the Spartans who did win a National Title....the Irish are hungry for a title of their own and a 27th win. I am predicting a hard fought 3-2 Notre Dame win at Michigan State with the gamewinner by Calle Ridderwall...a surprise I know.

Go Fighting Irish...onward to the CCHA Tournament, NCAA Tournament and upward! By the way, win this title for Mike Lockert...a man whose passion for Notre Dame hockey was as big as his heart. Fight on navy and gold!
