BallHype: hype it up!

Hopefully Chris Botta can keep it going tonight but if you are an active reader of his blog...then you know that the Islanders and Chris Botta have parted ways for a second time. Chris wrote this gem tonight. It is like every post Chris writes....full of vigor and yet class. Now clearly there was some mutual hemming and hawing....but it is interesting that the Isles did offer help if Chris wanted to turn this into a business.

To be clear, the Islanders made a very kind offer of support that would have been of great assistance if I chose to develop Point Blank as my own business. I’m grateful for their gesture and hope they respect that running a hockey blog as my personal full-time business at this stage of my life does not work for me. I thank them for the idea for Point Blank and their generous offer of support. I hope the blog was beneficial to the franchise over the last ten months.

Some had suggested a pay site as well but the reality is paid sites do not work all that well. Maybe for a fantasy sports site but not for a sports blog. Chris knows that well and it just plain too smart to go down that road. For that I have the utmost respect for him. Any man that can walk away from something that important truly understands what life has ahead for him. This picture and caption says it all and it captures Chris and John Tavares.

"Amazing. I write about you for six months. You're here. I'm gone."

"Amazing. I write about you for six months. You're here. I'm gone."

In the event that you cannot keep this going Chris....I say this to you. Anytime you want to write a post or appear on the podcast....the door is always open. It is extremely rare in this business to find someone who is willing to give it his or her all in every sense of the word. You are that rare commodity and something I would like to become in this media. Someone respected for their content, their personality, and most importantly their class when times are tough.

I do like the vision that Chris believes in. Truth be told when I first saw this online....it seems kind of almost awkward and yet when I read more into it...it made a lot of sense. In ten months, there has been an amazing following built. No question there is a way to build on it and everybody in the blogging community at the very least could give Chris a pat on the back for making us a little more relevant.

If I had any suggestion for Chris...I am guessing it would be to get outside (when it does not rain) and explore life a little. With of course, the first priority being to take care of one's family. Obviously no one is sure if Chris will continue "NY Hockey This Week" on ESPN 1050. I do hope that Chris does as I stream it whenever I have a chance.

I will now say good luck to a man who has done so much for this blogging world that a person like me is able to write about. The best way I can sum this up is Chris...here is a cider's up for you, your readers, and a sincere hope that if there is any way that this momentum can continue....you will find a way.
