Slushy CHUG!
It must be time for another installment of the Monday Slushy Water Cooler. There is some actual news in the chamber so to speak today...so let's get right down to it. The Rangers have just resigned forward Chris Higgins to a deal. Remember they just acquired him in the Scott Gomez trade. Terms have yet to be disclosed....hopefully they did not overpay. We'll see what that does with the Saku Koivu sweepstakes.
As the NHL gets back into things from the long holiday weekend....there were 20 players who filed for salary arbitration. It will be interesting to see what happens with several as I think a guy like Matt Hunwick is going to be signed before his hearing is even held. He is too good of a player for the Bruins to let him get to the arbiter's table.
Now for those scoring at home.....Matthias Ohlund not a tampering case. I mean come on Vancouver....this happens in every other sport all the time. Albert Haynesworth was signed just after 12:01 am ET when the NFL FA period started. It is not unheard of. Last I checked Washington dodged that bullet. It was not like Vancouver was going to sign him anyway. Let it go Vancouver....let it go!
The oh by the way...Ville Leino got 2 years and 1.6 million to resign with Detroit. Wow that could be some major bang for the buck....if he produces like many expect him to. Even the Avs were in the signing mood....signing six mostly lower tiered and minor players to contracts.
A more quiet type of thing where get this....some teams are already releasing their preseason schedules. Expect Atlanta to do so later today and other teams will surely follow suit if they have not already. No word on the over/under on how many fans come to see the new Russian duo of Kovalchuk/Antropov....it just sounds like a Supergroup.
Also, we are going to get some things going on the blog in the next few weeks. Obviously Ryan's Ultimate Playoffs is going to be a lot of fun. But also there is only 3 weeks to our official podcast anniversary. Occasionally, there will be links to some of our best of the best. It is always kind of funny that you can have a "best of". Really it means you have not screwed up so royally that someone hasn't thrown you off air permanently.
Now next week I even heard a rumor that Fantasy Hockey 101 is making a triumphant return. Bigger and better than ever.....Fantasy Hockey 101 will be also a mainstay on Fantasypros911.com when their hockey wing launches. Expect the unexpected with some in your face analysis along with a touch of humor and wit. Hey it is what people come to expect when they think of Fantasy Hockey 101. Who knows we may even have some guest appearances along the way this year.
Just as a late addendum before we split.....Eager, Fraser, and Brouwer (all RFA's) were signed by the Hawks. I am still not expecting anything from the NHLPA on the Hawks "snafu". Sometimes a mountain is made out of a molehill and this is kind of one of those glaring cases.
So until next week....we are running off with our puck, stick and 6 pack on the Monday Slushy Water Cooler. Aloha!
Sincerely,
