Slow News Day We Know....

BallHype: hype it up!

People were expecting things to be a little slow today...being the long holiday weekend is coming up. I do not think they were forecasting it to be THIS slow. As of 2pm PT....there were 7 signings. Contrast that to yesterday where there were 30 by 2pm. That is quite a stark difference.

Even the Dany Heatley situation has slowed to basically the dreaded status quo. That is a saying that no one likes to hear on Day 2 already but it was inevitable. Add in the fact that Heatley and Melnyk are at quite the impasse...it should be interesting to see how this all translates when the season gets closer. Hopefully they can mend fences for the time being.

Now just because there are not a lot of signings does it mean that it is dead news wise. Not in the least. There are still quite a few players mulling their options. The Kovalevs, Beauchemins, and Tanguays of the world are contemplating with their agents what would be the next move. There may be a small flurry of signings this evening before the long holiday weekend.

Contracts are not a very easy business. For one they have to be agreed upon and two, there are all sorts of terms and stipulations that get thrown in. Its like messy laundry and it needs to be sorted, washed, dried, and folded neatly. That is just how it is.

So will more signings happen today? Surely they will. Might it take awhile? Yes that is sadly also a possibility. Just a little patience and maybe still your team will land that free agent many teams want. You can also check out the scuttlebutt from the Puck Daddy chatterbox throughout the day. A great service done by the PD!
