Teubert’s hit wasn’t dirty

Both Canada and the United States are hosting their Evaluation Camp for the upcoming World Junior Championships this week. Both camp’s have held multiple scrimmages. Over weekend, the biggest news was Colten Teubert’s (Regina Pats WHL/Los Angeles Kings) hit on Jordan Caron (Rimouski Oceanic QMJHL/Boston Bruins) that left Caron with a broken collar bone.

I have no problem with the hit. He didn’t leave his feet until after the hit. Physical play is what Teubert brings to the table. Caron should have done a better job of keeping his head up. Should those types of hits be banished from the game? That’s a different question for a different day

Here’s what I do have a problem with, all the Boston Bruins fans calling it a cheap shot in a scrimmage. Folks, this isn’t your normal scrimmage like you see during training camps. The forty-plus players who are at this camp are trying to impress Hockey Canada’s brass. Some say, Teubert already has a spot on Team Canada because he was on last year’s team. Still he shouldn’t lay off because nothing is set in stone. Take a look at Team USA’s evaluation camp for example where Mitch Wahl (Spokane Chiefs WHL/Calgary Flames) was sent home today even though he was on last year’s team.

Teubert could use a better choice of words.

“It sucks for him, but hopefully he has a quick recovery,” Teubert said. “We’re all trying to make the team and it’s an opportunity for me to show what I’ve got too. No spots are secure, that’s how I have to play and it just happened.”

He could have said “it wasn’t my intent to injure him, but hopefully he has a quick recovery.”

That’s My Take
