Crazy Offseason...What Is Next?

BallHype: hype it up!

We are saddened by the firing of Dave Tippett today really more or less because one bad season and one god awful year by your "franchise goalie" should not make you expendable. Tippett may have not been able to get this team to the next level but last year really could have been written off as a lost cause. It was not his fault the team signed Sean Avery to a 4 year deal that did not exactly work out. Then his goalie stunk the farm and crapped the bed for most of the season. He lost his captain for the year, amongst other bad circumstances.

Sure Dallas wants to shake things up and I commend them for that. However, they could have given Tippett another shot. He deserved that much and he will get another opportunity somewhere else and make Dallas pay. This was the wrong move in my opinion.

So where will Dallas go in its search for a new head coach? The obvious is either Marc Crawford or Guy Carbonneau. They could even go with Peter Laviolette as a sort of out of left field choice. Needless to say the offseason has not technically started yet and the fireworks have been going off full guns ablazing since May. What is next? Darryl Sutter coaching the Flames again or better yet Lou Lamoriello steps down.

It all just goes to show that this really is a what have you done for me lately business. If only it could apply to certain players like Alexei Kovalev, Marty Turco, and the entire Devils defense....life would be much better....wouldn't it?

Let's see...to call who gets the axe next? Hey let us go with Don Waddell...why not...miracles could happen in Atlanta...can't they? Its just a thought everyone!

This Day In Playoff History (6/10)

BallHype: hype it up!

Today...June 10th...a day that will live in utter chaos...well probably not! I did find a moment a little off the beaten path back in the days of actual fighting! Amazing but true...anyway here is the moment.

I love a good old line brawl......

June 10th, 1999

In Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals....a line brawl ensues late in the game. Joe Nieuwendyk later said this was a turning point in the series but it sure did not seem like it at the time. The Dallas Stars would go on to win the Stanley Cup in six games.

Morning Skate: Finals Edition (6/10)

The Morning After:
My 3 stars from last night:
1. Marc-Andre Fleury
(25 saves)
Fleury certainly rebounded from Game 5… he was dynamite and on top of his game last night.
2. Tyler Kennedy (1 goal, 1 assist)
Mr. Kennedy was HUGE in Game 6, scoring the game-winner and picking up the primary assist.
3. Chris Osgood (29 saves)
‘Ozzie’ kept his team in the game as the Pens pushed the pace in the first 2 periods.
Unsung hero of the night:
Rob Scuderi
… He was a +2, had an assist, 4 blocked shots, nudged a loose puck away from the blue paint midway through the 3rd, and made a couple key kick saves in the crease with less than 20 seconds left. Brooks Orpik (6 BS, 4 H) was a close honorable mention.
‘RLD Game-Changing Performance’ of the night:
Marc-Andre Fleury
… As Daniel Cleary broke in on the breakaway with 1:30 to go, you could almost foresee Cleary deking out Fleury, tucking it in, and forcing OT. But Fleury’s left pad denied the game-tying goal. It was his marquee save in an outstanding performance.
