Chicago traded Gerry Desjardins to the Oakland Seals, along with Gerry Pinder and Kerry Bond, in exchange for goalie Gary Smith. Desjardins' unhealing injury forced the Black Hawks to substitute Gilles Meloche and Paul Shmyr three weeks later.
