This Day In Hockey History (11/3)

Today we have another moment in the great career of Dominik Hasek.  This one comes from 13 years ago and note how low this record was.  People forget that Buffalo had a whole lot of goalies come and go in their franchise history.  At any rate, we have a video and moment from a goalie who at this time was in the prime of his career in every sense of the word.

 

 

November 03, 1998


Dominik Hasek became the winningest goaltender in Sabres history (with his 157th victory) as Buffalo won 4-2 against the visiting Boston Bruins. Hasek replaced Don Edwards as the winningest goalie in team history.

This Day In Hockey History (1/13)

Some guys do not take very long to score an empty net goal but then there are guys like Brett Hull. Here is today’s moment from 17 years ago on such an occasion with a minor milestone as an add-on.

 

 

January 13, 1994


Playing in his 500th NHL game, Blues Brett Hull scored a goal to help the Blues to a 6-4 win over the Oilers, at St. Louis. It was his 386th career goal, but his first ever into an empty net.

Mark Messier moved ahead of Larry Murphy into second place all-time in NHL games played, with the 1,616th of his NHL career in a 3-2 Rangers loss against the visiting St. Louis Blues. Messier scored a goal in the game.

Marcel Dionne became just the second player in NHL history to score 1,700 career NHL points, when he scored a goal for the New York Rangers in a 5-3 loss at Calgary.
