This Day In Hockey History (2/18)

We bring you a quick edition of This Day In Hockey History for Saturday, February 18th.  Today we honor a man that was all class during his career in the NHL.  The moment came from 29 years ago today and was truly a first in Calgary Flames history.  Milestones that have a first do have a special place with us on The Program and a hearty respect.  It is time to find the video always at first and then the moment will be revealed.

 

 

February 18, 1983

Lanny McDonald became the first player in Calgary Flames history to score 50 goals in a season. The milestone came in a 5-1 loss at Buffalo. McDonald finished the season with a team-record 66 goals.

This moment happened 20 years ago today and well before gambling and Operation Slap Shot ever came into being.  Hey, this was a good milestone.  Here is said moment.  Enjoy.

 

 

February 18, 1991

Philadelphia’s Rick Tocchet scored his 200th career NHL goal in a 5-3 Flyers’ win over Chicago.

BallHype: hype it up!

Today on This Day, we found a relatively recent moment and were a little surprised by it. It forced us to look up some stats to even verify it, just to make sure. After careful consideration, here is today’s moment.



Mr. Dan Ellis does some cleaning….

February 18, 2004

Dallas Stars rookie goaltender Dan Ellis made 25 saves in his NHL debut to record his first career victory, 4-3 against the Kings in Los Angeles.
