Your Hockey Moment Of Zen...

Written by Chris Wassel on .

Before we dig into the night's action, why not try to achieve a little zen like the monks try to on a daily basis.  It is zen time.

Yes and it is blindfolded air hockey at that.

This Day In Hockey History (11/27)

Written by Chris Wassel on .

This one is a somber This Day as 19 years ago the Penguins paid a tribute to a dear friend and that went offensive lights out on a poor team in red and well green.  Here is a video and story too.

November 27, 1991

Penguins defeated the Devils 8-4 at the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh, following a 10 minute candlelight ceremony paying tribute to Bob Johnson, who had passed away one day earlier.

Ryan brings us the Morning Skate and sorry there are no more leftovers from the turkey sadly. Though there is some apple pie left.

AM Skate

The Morning After:

Yesterday’s scores:

Hurricanes 3, Bruins 0

Islanders 2, Devils 0

Flames 3, Flyers 2 (SO)

Stars 3, Blues 2

Canucks 6, Sharks 1

Predictions record: 9-4

My 3 stars of the night:

2. Cam Ward, CAR (37 Saves, Shutout)

3. Henrik Lundqvist, NYR (40 Saves, Shutout)

Close but no cigar: M. Fleury, PIT; R. DiPietro, NYI; O. Pavelec and R. Peverley, ATL; M. Havlat and M. Zidlicky, MIN; R. Miller, BUF; J. Howard, DET; J. Benn, DAL; M. Samuelsson, VAN; S. Varlamov, WSH; P. Sharp, CHI

Today’s Slate:

Flyers @ Devils, 1:00 ET

Flames @ Penguins, 1:00

Sabres @ Canadiens, 7:00

Maple Leafs @ Senators, 7:00

Panthers @ Lightning, 7:30

Stars @ Blues, 8:00

Rangers @ Predators, 8:00

Ducks @ Coyotes, 8:00

Wild @ Avalanche, 9:00

Sharks @ Oilers, 10:00

Blackhawks @ Kings, 10:30

Games of the Day:

Philadelphia Flyers @ New Jersey Devils

1:00 ET… TV: Local Networks

Records:

Overall: Flyers (15-6-3) … Devils (7-14-2)

Last Ten: Flyers (6-2-2) … Devils (4-5-1)

Away/Home: Flyers (6-2-2) … Devils (3-5-2)

Season Series (09/10): 5-1 Flyers

Players to watch:

PHI- Scott Hartnell

Hartnell has been a nice secondary threat for Philly this year.

NJ- Mattias Tedenby

The 2008 first-rounder has elevated his game in the last week or so.

Projected Goaltenders:

PHI- Brian Boucher (2010/11 stats: 3-3-1, 2.84 GAA)

NJ- Johan Hedberg (2010/11 stats: 3-3-1, 2.94 GAA)

Injury Report:

PHI- Dan Carcillo (knee, out), Matt Walker (hip, out), Ian Laperriere (head, out)

NJ- Martin Brodeur (elbow, out), Zach Parise and Anssi Salmela (knee, out), Jamie Langenbrunner (neck, questionable), Matthew Corrente (upper body, questionable), Bryce Salvador (concussion, out), Matt Taormina (ankle, out), Jacob Josefson and Mark Fraser (hand, out)

Game Thoughts:

This will be the first meeting between these two since their first round matchup last spring. Between the regular season and playoffs, Philadelphia was 9-2 against the Devils. New Jersey, who is decimated with injuries, will look to get back on track after losing yesterday. Meanwhile, the Flyers will be mad after their controversial loss against Calgary. The Devils aren’t up to speed yet, so I like Philly.

Prediction: Flyers 3, Devils 1

Chicago Blackhawks @ Los Angeles Kings

10:30 ET… TV: Local Networks

Records:

Overall: Blackhawks (12-11-2) … Kings (13-8-0)

Last Ten: Blackhawks (5-4-1) … Kings (5-5-0)

Away/Home: Blackhawks (7-4-2) … Kings (8-1-0)

Season Series: 1-0 Blackhawks

Players to watch:

CHI- Patrick Sharp

After a goal-scoring drought, Sharp has scored in four of the last five games.

LA- Anze Kopitar

Kopitar has just one point in the last three games… he’s due.

Projected Goaltenders:

CHI- Marty Turco (2010/11 stats: 8-7-2, 2.90 GAA)

LA- Jonathan Quick (2010/11 stats: 11-3-0, 1.90 GAA)

Injury Report:

CHI- None

LA- Willie Mitchell (wrist, out), Alex Ponikarovsky (knee, out), Scott Parse (hip, out)

Game Thoughts:

Chicago will finish off their inconsistent road trip tonight after yesterday’s win at Anaheim. The Kings are happy to be back home following a disappointing trek out east where they went 1-5. L.A. is solid at home and they have taken three of the last four home tilts against the ‘Hawks. I expect a back-and-forth game with the Kings prevailing.

Prediction: Kings 4, Blackhawks 3

The rest of tonight’s predictions:

Penguins over Flames

Canadiens over Sabres

Maple Leafs over Senators

Lightning over Panthers

Blues over Stars

Predators over Rangers

Ducks over Coyotes

Avalanche over Wild

Sharks over Oilers
